If you use a motorized scooter, do people assume you can't walk?

i have chronic fatigue syndrome (cfs) and peripheral neuropathy. have seen scooters in grocery stores but never use them b/c i'm able to walk. however, would like to buy one for self because i do tire easily and on a really bad day can't get around well. What are those grocery store scooters called and how can i find one to purchase? if you use one of those (whatever they are called), do ppl assume you can't walk or can they be used by people without that particular disability?
